Randy Hillier, MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington offered his congratulations to caucus colleague Bob Runciman, who was appointed to the Senate of Canada today by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
“Bob has been a steadfast ally, and a political inspiration to me throughout my time at Queen’s Park,” said Hillier. “I’ve been proud to call him my caucus colleague and my friend.”
Hillier’s riding of Lanark-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington borders on Runciman’s riding of Leeds-Grenville.
“There’s nobody more deserving of this honour, and I have no doubt that Bob Runciman will quickly bring the same fire and passion to the Senate as he has brought to Queen’s Park,” stated Hillier. “I just hate to see him go.”

Senate reform has to occur with the agreement and legal permission of the majority of the provinces if it is to be real . No one should agree with an unelected senate. However Mr. Harper needs to bring this issue before the provinces and finally bring some closure to issues around this unrepresentative body. Either that or advocate getting rid of it.
